Privacy Policy

Personal data collected (& why it is collected)

Comments

When visitors leave comments on the site, data shown in the comments form is collected, and also the visitor’s IP address and browser user agent string to help spam detection and to identify potential abuse. An anonymized string created from your email address (also called a hash) may be provided to the Gravatar service to see if you are using it. The Gravatar service privacy policy is available here: https://automattic.com/privacy/. After approval of your comment, if your email address is associated with a Gravatar picture, your profile picture will be visible to the public with your comment. These Gravatar images may also be associated with your account or posts to the site in other areas such as writer directory profiles, forum posts, author bios, and e-courses.

Media

If you upload images to the website, you should avoid uploading images with embedded location data (EXIF GPS) included. Visitors to the website can download and extract any location data from images on the website.

Contact forms

All data shown in a contact form is collected through the website and forwarded to the website owner's email address. This may include your name, email address, content of your message, and any other data provided by you.

Email subscription forms

All data shown in an email subscription form is collected and processed through a third party email marketing service. This includes your email address. This data is used to manage your subscription preferences and send you the content you have requested to receive via email. You may unsubscribe from these emails at any time by clicking the "unsubscribe" link at the bottom of any email newsletter or job list email. Note that job emails and the site's newsletter are separate email lists that can be subscribed (and unsubscribed) to separately.

Other forms

At times this website will use additional forms for data collection (such as "interview" forms for profile blog posts, guest post submission forms, survey forms, or other forms tied to website features). All data shown in each form is collected through the website and may be saved to the database and / or forwarded to the website owner. This may include your IP address, allowing the website owner to track abuse and related problems when users are able to post content to the database.

How long your data is retained

If you leave a comment, the comment and its metadata are retained indefinitely. For users that register on the website (limited to authors, job board advertisers, and writer directory profile advertisers),  personal information provided in their user profile will also be stored. All users can see, edit, or delete their personal information at any time (except they cannot change their username or directly close an account). • Data related to email list subscriptions and unsubscribe requests (required for legal protection and technical troubleshooting should a user claim to continue receiving emails from a list after unsubscribing)
